Remember that ridiculously crazy windstorm that battered the valley in August of 2015? The one that Tyler & Amanda had to brave for their wedding day? Travis & Michelle missed it by one day. So they had the insanely gorgeous moody skies, but none of the crazy drama that came with it. We had to deal with a bit of rain, but that’s to be expected by now, isn’t it?rainy-day-wedding-inspo
So, due to the weather, the ceremony was moved indoors. This wasn’t Michelle’s first choice, but the staff at the Falls did an amazing job ensuring the indoor ceremony area looked perfect. The wedding party included Michelle & Travis’ kids, and I loved watching them do their sand ceremony after the first kiss – a symbol of all of their lives joining together. After the ceremony, we explored the golf course for portraits, and also found a gorgeous spot across the road with a view of Mt. Cheam. The reception was decorated to the nines, thanks to the amazing floral wizardry of Deborah Lee Designs I love how they incorporated their love of the outdoors into their decor. Thanks again, Travis & Michelle for having me along to document your big day!!

Angie & Alex got married at Triple Swaan Nursery in Abbotsford on a beautiful day in September last year. It was my first time shooting a wedding at Triple Swaan, and it was fantastic!! They have a gorgeously landscaped lawn for the ceremony location, and the perfect white tent for the reception. There are also so many locations right on the property that lend themselves to stunning photos for the bride and groom and their families and friends!
We had such a blast shooting this wedding. Angie & Alex are super chill, and hilarious. I knew after shooting their engagement session, that these were my people. So many laughs! And their wedding day was the same. Except maybe exaggerated, because their wedding party was equally hilarious. Gah, I’m feeling so nostalgic!! I love my new baby, but can I go back to work already?!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
Anyways, I have nothing else to say. Well, except for “please refer me to all your engaged friends.” Ok, now I’m done. Enjoy the images!!

I’ve been riding this high of endorphins or something ever since I shot Tom & Kristie’s wedding on Saturday. Or maybe it’s just pregnancy hormones?? Either way, it’s been awesome. It was my first wedding of the season, and it. was. amazing. I’m always a bit nervous before my first wedding. I feel like maybe I won’t be as creative as I could be, because I haven’t shot a wedding for a few months. But these two were so… I don’t know… just INTO eachother, everything just felt perfect. They fell into all of these adorable, natural, intimate poses, and spent most of their portrait time just hanging out, snuggling, and laughing at eachother. I hardly had to pose them at all!!
The day was drizzly and overcast, so we met under a bridge for the first look and portraits. Umbrellas are awesome, but it’s nice to be able to just hang out, and not have to worry about trying to stay dry. Their whole wedding party was a blast, and my cheeks actually hurt from laughing πŸ˜€ Following portraits, and family photos, we met at Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church for the ceremony. Quik Pik flowers and Cinderella Slip-Ons are an absolute dream team, and had the church looking so fresh and beautiful!! After an emotional ceremony, we all made our way to the Ramada Abbotsford, which was also decorated to the nines, where we enjoyed another soul satisfying dinner (the Ramada team never disappoints!), fantastic speeches, and dancing. Tom & Krit, I’m so thankful to have been your photographer, and capture these moments for you. I hope you love them as much as I do!!

This was one of my favorite weddings to date. One of the most difficult to photograph, for reasons I’ll explain in a bit, but one of the most fulfilling. Tyler & Amanda had been planning their backyard wedding for what seems like forever. It was all Amanda had ever wanted, and they have a gorgeous view from their backyard on the top of Sumas Mountain. The wedding was set for August, which generally comes with nice weather here in the PNW. Little did they know, that they would wake up to the worst storm the Lower Mainland had seen in a very long time. And the repercussions of that weather affected every. little. detail. they had painstakingly crafted for their big day.
I showed up before the weather really got going. We hung out upstairs for hair and makeup, and despite the weather predictions, Amanda was in great spirits. I love this photo!! You can just feel the emotion <3
The drama started with the giant tents they had rented to cover the ceremony. They had been watching the weather, and knew they weren’t going to get the sunny ceremony they had originally envisioned, so they hired a company to come and set them up. Once the wind picked up, the tents literally lifted off the ground, and would have blown into the neighbor’s home it it hadn’t been for the line of trees bordering the two properties. We heard someone scream from the backyard, so we quickly went over to the window to see what was going on.
Amanda doing some documenting of her own.
A bunch of the cute mason jars that were prepared to go as table centerpieces once the reception was to be set up were blown off the tables and smashed to smithereens.
But this girl kept calm through all of it. I can’t get over how composed she stayed all day!!! Girl after my own heart <3
UrbanFigPhotography005Tyler and the guys were getting ready at a separate location in Abbotsford, and because of all the trees across the road, could hardly make it back to the house!!UrbanFigPhotography006UrbanFigPhotography007UrbanFigPhotography008Flawless makeup byΒ Elizabeth Ann Makeup!UrbanFigPhotography009
After the tents were taken down, guests began to arrive and get seated on the yard. The sky was super dark and ominous, and I would’ve bet a pretty penny that we were going to get soaked. BUT?? No rain at all. During the entire ceremony. Well, actually that’s a lie. I think it drizzled for a couple of minutes. But we don’t even need to count that – it wasn’t even enough to ruin hairstyles.
UrbanFigPhotography010Possibly one of my fave photos of the whole day!! Β haha!!stormy-backyard-wedding-in-abbotsfordUrbanFigPhotography012Tyler trying to hold it together, but that one solitary tear got away <3UrbanFigPhotography013Shot from an upstairs window in the house – I love how this shows more of the view! After the ceremony, we did some family photos in the backyard, and then strolled down to the neighbour’s house, who have a gorgeous pond in their backyard. We had about 20 minutes before it started to rain. And rain. And rain.
We ran back to the house where we had some appies (They managed to get the food warmed up before the power went out!!) and cut the cake. They were prepared with generators, so we did have lights and music all night. Once the rain let up again, we headed back outside for the first dance! Oh the tears, you guys.
Then the shenanigans began!! Lots of dancing, some emotional speeches, but all in all, an amazingly fun night. The difficulty was in going from inside to outside depending on the weather! I’d set up my lights inside, we’d spend some time dancing, and then we’d head out because the rain stopped. I’d haul my lights back outside, set them back up, keep shooting, and then the rain would start again! haha, it kept me hopping, and i was exhausted by the end of it. But I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Thank you guys so much for the privilege of being your photographer!!
And yes, my friends, that is a grown man doing the splits!! FAVOURITE PHOTO AWARD!!

unique-wedding-photography-in-vancouver-canadaIn August I had the pleasure of shooting one of the most laid-back couples of the year, at the most unique location, in some crazy weather. Pete & Abby both work on farms, so they decided to incorporate the farm “feel” into their wedding by hosting their guests at the Chilliwack Atchelitz Thresherman’s Village. They were hoping to be able to say their “i do’s” on a beautiful grassy area beside a creek, but the weather had very definite other plans. The wind was howling, and we even had thunder and lightning!! The rain held off until after the ceremony, even know though we were kept comfortable under a beautiful log overhang, but then it came down with a vengeance.

Following the ceremony, we took advantage of cover under the Bailey bridge and hung out for photos with the bridal party. From there we warmed up with some shots and champagne at Duke’s Pub, and then with no convincing needed at all, Pete & Abby agreed to stop near Bridal Falls for some rainy shots in the woods. We had literally 5 minutes to set this up and shoot these before having to leave for the reception, but those frantic 5 minutes were so worth it!! One of these shots is the one they decided to blow up and have printed on canvas for their home.

The reception was held under tents at Abby’s parents property, and it was the perfect ending to a perfect day. It was cozy, full of vibrant energy, and we were stuffed full of amazing food and drinks courtesy of Catering Visions. These guys smiled and laughed through all the rain and wind, and it ended up being an absolutely fantastic day.
