I hired an employee!!! haha, probably not a big deal to most, but seriously, I can’t believe I’m running my own business and I legit have someone on payroll! #itsthelittlethings

It’s crazy to look back 5 years and think this all started because one of my best friends was getting a dslr for Mother’s Day, and I thought that was a really great idea. So I batted my eyelashes at my hubby while telling him how awesome my best friend’s hubby was for buying such a great gift, and I got one too! The power of eyelashes. Don’t discount it, ladies. Well, then one thing led to another, and soon I was shooting way too much, charging way too little, making way too many mistakes (I’m so sorry, original clients), but learning like crazy. It didn’t take me long to realize that I loved photography with every ounce of my being, and I began legitimizing things; figuring out my costs, and trying to turn my hobby into a profitable little business. And now I’m here. I’ve learned that weddings are what i love to shoot, and I pinch myself every time someone hires me to document their big day. It’s crazytown.

But I’ve also learned that running a business is really hard to do with 2 littles at home. I started looking at ways to work smarter instead of harder. Last year I began outsourcing my editing, but it never got to the point where I could get my edits back and deliver them straight to the client. I was still tweaking this and tweaking that, and I was paying a lot for a service that didn’t do what I was hoping it would. So at the beginning of this year, my busiest year to date, I knew I had to get my ducks in a row. And here to that for me? DUN DUN DUN.
Meet Rachel.
Rachel is this amazing gem of a girl; selfless, amazing with kids, genuine, and chill. And she’s a rockin photographer herself. Check out her work here and here This makes her the perfect candidate for editing, since she already has a fantastic eye for colour and exposure! I’m so excited to have her on board, to help me get weddings delivered quicker than ever before! And she’ll free me up to work on blogging (I’ve been failing miserably in that department), social media (pretty dismal), album design, emails etc. And depending on my editing workload, she may also be helping out with all those things as well. So if you get an email from Rachel, now you have a face to put with the name.

And I just want to give a HUGE shout out to everyone that has entrusted me to capture their weddings, engagements, maternity or newborns, or families. I wouldn’t be here without you. Without your encouragement, without your referrals, without your positive reviews. Y’all mean the world to me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Matt & Vanessa’s Queen Elizabeth Park engagement session was gorgeous!! We had a beautiful warm evening to work with, and Queen E Park is full of beautiful little nooks and crannies. This awesome couple was referred to me from a couple I had the pleasure of shooting last year; Sandy & Nathan. As soon as I heard that, I was like, SWEET! If they are anything like Sandy & Nathan, this is going to be a blast!! And a blast it was. They are such genuine, warm people, and it was so fun to hang out with them for the evening. Can’t wait for your wedding you guys!!!!
I really love how these two dressed for their session. I have a lot of people that ask what they should wear to their engagement session, and I’d like to share few tips here. First, dress to match the environment. So if you’re having your session in a forest or in a field, dress down a bit. And I don’t mean show up in baggy jeans and a sweatshirt, but don’t wear heels and a cocktail dress! But if you’re having your session in the city, heels and a cocktail dress would look amazing! Also, wear something you feel beautiful in. If you feel awkward or uncomfortable, that will translate in your images. Get your hair and makeup done! This will not only help boost your confidence, but it is a good trial run for your wedding makeup. And lastly, coordinate with your fiancee. I didn’t say MATCH – no matchy matchy!! – but choose colours and patterns that compliment eachother. If you have any tips or questions, just comment below!

AHHHHH!! I had a blast with these two exploring the countryside on Chilliwack Lake road for their sunrise engagement session! The light was perfect, the company was pretty much totes adorbs, and the backgrounds were stunning. Kinda all makes it worthwhile getting up this early. Cuz lemme tell you, it’s not something I do for just anyone ๐Ÿ˜‰
Beth & Joel, from my fairly extensive experience, seem to be a perfect fit for eachother. Beth is quiet, but witty, magnanimous and gentle, respectful and generous, and Joel? Joel’s funny. I don’t know him well. In fact, I only met him a few months ago for a quick handshake and a “how do you do?” after church one Sunday. But he had us both in stitches for much of the session. I’m sure he has many other redeeming qualities, and if I listen to Beth, they are endless ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love the quiet way these two interact together, and how Joel always makes sure Beth is alright. Totes adorbs RIGHT??! Thank you both for traipsing about with me in the jungle, and being patient while I tried to get the shot below. EEK!! One of my faves FO SHO.

  • Beautiful! Love how you use that natural light for special lighting effects (1st photo). And love how this couple is perfectly relaxed in the photos, especially the photo with the guitar!ReplyCancel

Exploring Agassiz with Monique & Richard for their engagement session was perfection. And even more perfect? It didn’t rain. Well, actually, that’s a lie; it did rain for a few seconds, but that just resulted in some ridiculously awesome cloud formations, as evidenced by the first photo in this set. We started at Monique’s house, which is where their wedding is going to take place. Can I just tell you how excited I am about that? I mean, the view from here is second to NONE. Her living room has this uninterrupted view of Mt. Cheam in all it’s glory. It’s gorgeous!! There’s also this amazing stone shed, blossoming trees, the river nearby… It’s pretty much, well, perfect! So after shooting around the property for a bit, and being photo-bombed by Monique’s dad ๐Ÿ˜€ we headed off to the river to cap off the session with some amazing light. Thanks you guys for showing me around a bit, and keeping me thoroughly entertained!!

I had been looking forward to Ben & Keloran’s wedding for WAY too long!! I met Keloran at a Starbucks in Abbotsford what feels like many moons ago, and hit it off. Like, so much so that our initial meeting took over an hour and a half if I remember correctly. She was ridiculously gorgeous, super easy to talk to, and so down to earth. One of those people that really have no clue how insanely beautiful they are. Which is fun ๐Ÿ˜‰ Although I wanted to physically punch her out a few times on the wedding day when she put herself down. GIRL?? You are a stunner. And not only that, you are a beautiful person inside. Now just tuck that away for future reference. And Ben? Dude, you are a blast. Kinda quiet, but pretty much everything that came out of your mouth on Saturday made me laugh. You had the perfect reaction to seeing your bride for the first time (not that their can be a perfect one, but somehow yours just was), and it made for my favorite first look EVER. And even though it rained during portraits, you guys were in great spirits. You were just wrapped up in eachother and your friends and your family, and it was a beautiful thing to be a part of. LOVE YOU BOTH!!!
